Norvasc is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in people with congestive heart failure (CHF), peripheral artery disease (PAD) or hypertension. This medication works by blocking the action of certain blood pressure-lowering chemicals in the body that are responsible for causing the hypertension to become more extreme. This is why it is prescribed for patients who are not responding well to treatment. It is important to note that Norvasc is only available with a prescription and should be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider who is familiar with the condition.
People who are already taking or may be taking certain medications for conditions like liver disease may also be at risk of taking Norvasc.
It is not recommended to take Norvasc if you are pregnant, are breastfeeding or if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Norvasc is not used to treat high blood pressure or to prevent blood clots, as it is metabolized by the liver and is excreted in the urine. This medication should be taken with caution and is not recommended for people who have any serious heart disease or who are taking other medications.
People who are allergic to any of its ingredients are at risk of developing certain side effects, such as dizziness, fainting, heart problems or swelling, and kidney problems.
It is not recommended for people who are taking certain medications for heart or liver disease, as these drugs interact with the drugs in question and should be used with caution.
People who are allergic to any of its ingredients, or who have a history of heart attack, blood clotting problems, liver or kidney problems should not take Norvasc, as this is a potential side effect of this drug. People who are taking other medications or are taking medicines that affect kidney function should avoid Norvasc.
Norvasc should not be used in children under the age of 18, unless they are taking a high dose of a medication that may interact with Norvasc. This is because Norvasc, like other medications, can lead to serious side effects such as high blood pressure and kidney problems.
Norvasc is not recommended in people who are taking certain medications for heart problems such as beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, or diuretics. Norvasc can also be used as a treatment for high blood pressure, as well as for other conditions in people with diabetes, heart disease, or kidney problems.
Norvasc should not be used with calcium channel blockers such as amlodipine, diltiazem, eplerenone, pravastatin, simvastatin, or verapamil.
